Insung Information (www.insunginfo.co.kr), a u-healthcare solutions provider, announced today that the company has been selected as the leading developer for MKE (Korea Ministry of Knowledge Economy) “Embedded SW Technology” project.
According to MKE, the objectives of Embedded SW Technology project are to promote development of embedded SW core technology for products and services, and to create a new value-added market of strategic industries.
The project is to be implemented in eight industry areas, of which Insung Information is to participate in the u-healthcare industry area. The project title for this area is “Biometrics-Based Remote Healthcare Device and Software Platform” development, with the budget of 2.5 billion Korean won (1.2 billion Korean won for this year).
The project is to begin in mid-June this year, and the development phase will last for 1.5 years, until November 2009, during which healthcare device and software platform will be completed and standardized based on a proven service model.
With the current trend of aging society, people of all generations are paying more attention to healthcare and welfare than ever. Demand for remote healthcare and monitoring devices is rapidly growing, subsequently creating needs for software platform that can support such devices.
The MKE project is to develop, implement, and standardize technologies of remote healthcare services and software platform for healthcare devices that collects biometrics readings such as pulse, body temperature, blood pressure, calories, ECG, etc., and provide remote monitoring and video consultations.
The resulting products will includes software for biosensors and terminal devices (portable and home devices for biometrics reading), wired and wireless interface for healthcare information, user-friendly embedded software platform, platform for biometrics data collection, processing, and management, and integrated healthcare support solution. The completed solutions and technologies will be applied to internet and on/offline service environment connected to home network and healthcare provider IT system for pilot service before being finalized as the optimum software. The finalized solutions will be made available to the public.
All software and platform developed through this project will be standardized and made available to the public, so that equipment manufacturers, system suppliers, and business providers in the u-health industry can utilize them in a wide range of business areas.
Mr. Jong-Yoon Won, CEO of Insung Information, comments “even though the u-healthcare industry is heading towards high-end based on IT convergence, the fundamental technology such as embedded software is still weak. I expect the MKE project will help strengthen the fundamentals of the industry. We will do our best in developing standard platform for u-healthcare services.”
For this project, Insung Information has formed a consortium with El Bio, XCE, and C&I HealthCare. Also, external research organizations are participating, including Seoul University, Korea University, Catholic University, and u-Healthcare Business Consortium.
